Newsletter - January 2008

Hello all,

The region annual dinner is always well attended and this year was no exception. Forty three of us sat down to an excellent meal at the Lymm Hotel on the 19th of January. We were delighted to welcome guests from the Blackpool region. The raffle raised £160 for region funds. Thanks to all those who brought prizes and bought tickets, and of course to Gail for selling them.

A straw poll conducted at a recent meeting indicated that any activity that included driving TVRs, looking at TVRs, showing TVRs, talking about TVRs or eating, preferably within sight of TVRs was likely to prove popular. Furthermore, any activity that combined two or more of these would in all probability prove to be very popular. Accordingly we will seek to plan events along these lines. A coding system for events, based on the pie charts used by Sainsbury’s to classify foodstuffs is being considered in order to prevent overdosing.

The summer of 2008 promises to be a good one with car shows, runs out and race meetings to go to. Of course we’ll be at Tatton Park at the end of May and again in mid August. We have a group heading for Le Mans in mid June and another heading south for the Silverstone Classic at the end of July. Also, we’ll be at Oulton Park for the Tuscan Challenge and the Gold Cup.

There were four TVRs racing in the 70s Roadsports at Oulton Gold Cup in 2007 driven by Julian Barter (3000M) 1st, Peter Shaw (Tuscan) 3rd, Christina Totty (3000M) 17th and Mark Brown (3000M). (See the Gallery page for pictures) Let’s be there to support them in 2008.

A run around North Wales is in the planning stage as is a canal trip. (We can really find out if TVRs keep the water out on that one!) There are car shows at Gawsworth Hall and at Capesthorne Hall. Somewhere in the midst, we’ll see if we can squeeze in a barbeque.

As we write this, we’re thinking of Andy Rattray and trusting that he will make a full recovery following his operation.

Newsletter - December 2007

Hello all,

As we write this, we are surrounded by wrapping paper and Christmas cards. Choices are coming in for the annual dinner in January and we are looking forward to spending time with our family, a rare occurrence these days.

By the time you read this, Christmas will be over and you, no doubt, will be anticipating the TVR year to come.

Over 30 of us enjoyed our Christmas ‘Party’ at ‘Home’ at the December meeting. Everyone who came brought a wrapped gift and was issued with a ticket. These were later drawn as in a raffle and everyone went home with a gift. The pizzas, courtesy of the region, were very much enjoyed, the duck one being particularly popular. As a treat, Janette brought a tin of chocolates which also went down well. For those of you who were unable to come along, we missed you and hope to see you at our other events.

We passed around a list of potential activities which had been suggested by the organising team. A definite outing is on July 6th to the Summer Fair at Zoe’s Place in Liverpool where we hope to put on a very small display. Other popular ideas include a trip to the Snowdon mountain railway, a canal trip and a tour of Wales (the short version). Add to these Tatton 1 and 2, barbeque, annual dinner, curry night, Silverstone Classic and Gold Cup as well as various displays and we are in for a busy year. Don’t expect too much sense out of Janette up to June as ‘the wedding’ will take up most of her time and thoughts.

Janette and Paul
